SBLL OVERVIEW OF DIVISIONS, REGISTRATION & ASSESSMENTS
Registration:
Fees: Juniors $185, Majors/Minors $160, Rookies $90, T-Ball $25
Registration Deadlines:
Majors & Minors--Sunday, February 21th. Players must be registered prior to participating in player
assessments. Players not
registered by this date are not guaranteed a position on a team and will incur
a mandatory late fee of $40. After
the registration deadline, players will be placed on teams on a first come,
first served basis.
Juniors, Rookies & T-Ball—Friday, March 12. Players not registered by this time are not guaranteed placement on a team and will incur a mandatory late fee of $25 for Juniors/Rookies and $10 for t-ball. After the registration deadline, players will be placed on a team on a first come, first served basis.

SBLL's T-Ball Division is designed to introduce young kids
to baseball. T-Ball is open to
kids ages 5-6, and is designed to introduce younger children to the principal
rules of the game. (Please note
the Little League rules now mandate a minimum age of 5 for kids to
participate in Little League.) Kids
begin learning the basic skills of hitting, fielding, throwing and base
running. All hitting is off tees. Scores are not kept, and outs are not
counted. Players will alternate
between all positions in the field.
Focus is placed on the basics of the game. Parents may request that players be placed with certain
coaches or kids. Teams will be
formed by the Division Coordinator with the goal placing kids with their
friends and peers. |

SBLL'S Rookies B Division is geared for beginning and
developing baseball players.
Rookies B is open to kids in kindergarten and 1st
Grade. Rookies B is designed for
kids to continue learning the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, throwing and
base running. Coaches pitch to
kids and a tee may be used if necessary. Catchers are used, giving kids the experience behind
the plate (without the threat of having runners trying to steal). Scores are not kept, however outs are
counted. Players will alternate
between all positions in the field.
Parents may request that players be placed with certain coaches or
kids. Teams will be formed by
the Division Coordinator with the goal placing kids with their friends and
peers. |

SBLL'S Rookies A Division is geared for baseball players
who have had one or two years of experience playing. Rookies A is open to kids in 2nd
Grade. Rookies A is designed for
kids to continue learning the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, throwing and
base running. Rookies A will
introduce kid pitch by allowing kids to pitch the first few pitches to each
batter, after which coaches will finish pitching the remainder of the at bat
if the batter has not put the ball in play. In this manner, kids will be introduced to the concepts of
pitching and hitting against live pitching, while using coach pitch to allow
the ball to be put into play and keep the game moving. Balls and strikes will not be
kept, and no batter will run the risk of striking out. Scores are not kept, however
outs are counted. Players will
alternate between all positions in the field. Parents may request that players be placed with certain
coaches or kids. Teams will be
formed by the Division Coordinator with the goal placing kids with their
friends and peers. |

SBLL's Minors Division is a competitive division open to 3rd
Grade kids. All players must
still attend an assessment so that skill levels can be assessed to ensure
balanced and competitive teams.
Teams are formed by a draft of the coaches after the completion of
assessments (parents may not request placement with certain coaches or
peers). Minors is kid
pitch. It is intended to allow
kids to continue learning the fundamentals of baseball, but in a competitive
environment where scores are kept, wins/losses are recorded, and umpires are
used to call balls, strikes and outs.
Rules may deviate slightly from Minors AAA and/or Majors in order to
aid the game and develop the skills of younger players (for example, steals
may be prohibited and/or limited).
Players will be assigned positions based upon the determination of the
team manager. |

SBLL's Minors
AA Division is a competitive division open to 4th & 5th Grade kids. All players must still attend an assessment
so that skill levels can be assessed to ensure balanced and competitive teams. Teams are formed by a draft of the
coaches after the completion of assessments (parents may not request
placement with certain coaches or peers). This higher division of minors is intended to allow kids
to continue learning the fundamentals of baseball, but in a competitive
environment with players of their own age where scores are kept, wins/losses
are recorded, and umpires are used to call balls, strikes and outs. Players will be assigned positions
based upon the determination of the team manager. |

SBLL's Majors
Division is a kid pitch, competitive division open to kids ages 10-12,
however only 6th graders are guaranteed placement on a Majors team
(regardless of whether the 6th graders are age 11 or 12). A few 5th graders may be selected
for a majors team. All11
year-olds not selected to a Majors team will be placed on a Minors AAA team. Teams are formed by a draft of the
coaches after the completion of tryouts/assessments (parents may not
request placement with certain coaches or peers). Majors is intended to
reinforce the fundamentals of baseball in a competitive environment. |

SBLL's Junior Division is a competitive division open to
kids ages 13-14. Juniors is
intended to encourage players to continue to play baseball and improve their
skills. All kids registering for
Juniors will be placed on a team.
Juniors teams play against other Juniors teams from neighboring local
little leagues. New rules are introduced, such as lead offs, pick offs and
balks, and the game is played on larger fields. |

*Players must
play in their grade level division and will not be allowed to play up or down. Player grade is based on the 2009-2010
school year. If any parent desires for their child to
play outside the division set forth for their child's age (either up or
down in division), then such parent must make such request of the SBLL
President (renae.foxhoven@sbllbaseball.org) in writing. The SBLL
President shall provide a written determination to the requesting
parent within a reasonable period after the request is made.
**A player's age is
determined by the player's actual age on April 30, 2010.
Players Assessments:
The purpose of assessments is to ensure competitive and balanced
teams. Assessments are mandatory
for the minors and majors divisions with the exception of players already on a
majors teams. Assessments will not
be used to assign players to a division with the exception of 5th
graders selected for the majors division
